iPhone 12 Small window view in FaceTime in IOS 14/iPhone 12

I recently upgraded from my iPhone 11 to 12 (both running latest version of iOS 14). We did a FaceTime with our son and when I turned the iPhone to horizontal, the little window (showing my wife and I) was VERY small - to the point that I could not get myself and my wife together in the view. I was able to move the little window around the screen but could not figure out how to either make that window have a wider view. I don't remember the view in FaceTime being that small when I had my iPhone 11.
Any ideas or suggestions (or is my memory just that bad and the view was that small)?
