Smart Battery Case - Ship time

I have a smart battery case for my XS Max and it is tearing on the bottom corner so when I was at the Apple Store this weekend they said it was defective and would swap it out for a new case. The sales associate came back and said that they (and no other local store) have any in stock. When I look at Apple.com it says that they have a ship date of Jul 17 - Jul 31 and won't be in the store for a pick up until July 31. Does anyone know why they are back ordered for so long?


I just looked again at apple.com and all the colors and all the different sizes (xs, xr and the max) all have the same ship dates of Jul 17 - Jul 31.

I've been monitoring this and seems like there aren't any movements of getting it closer and the available to pick up date keeps on pushing back. The only color that I see available for pick up at my local apple store is the pink color at least for the XS Max.
