I've long wondered why my original iPad had better wifi coverage than iPad 2 or the new iPad, as in one room in my house I had no usable wifi connection with the newer devices and no problem with the original iPad... It turns out the smart cover was the culprit.
It makes of course not much difference when the wifi signal is strong, but in some cases when having a reliable connection is difficult, it might help to temporarily remove the smart cover...
