I feel the Apple one is overpriced. I'm thinking of getting a generic 3rd party one from ebay around $14-$15 to hold me over until I find a better case that is released.

No. Only the leather ones.

I have a friend that got the $70 leather one and it's worn and pealing!
Why wouldn't the friend have Apple replace it if it's worn and peeling within the first year? Seems that'd be a no-brainer if my $70 leather smart cover were failing within the one year warranty period! It is genuine, right, not one of those scum 3rd party sellers on Amazon passing off fakes as the real thing?
I know there are people who had problems with them, but my year old black leather cover is doing just fine.
I had a hunch the 3rd gen ipads might work with the smart covers, so took a gamble and kept it when I sold my iPad2. Glad that paid off.![]()
