Smart Cover Speaker Static noise

I bought a smart cover tonight and was trying it out while watching tv. After I shut off the tv, I closed the smart cover for the night and heard a static noise. I opened it up and did it again. Each time I close the smart cover, I get a short static noise from the speaker. It doesn't matter what volume level is set. Anyone else having this.

I have the 32gb black verizon Ipad2
