So I just saw this previewed on tuaw; it's a wooden smart cover for the iPad 2. http://www.tuaw.com/2011/03/24/wooden-ipad-2-cover-outsmarts-apples-smart-cover/

I have a black leather cover that's quite nice, but after seeing the video for this thing I'm really tempted to return it and order one of these. Suggestions from any of you who've had wooden cases for your devices, used a Miniot iPhone case, or are thinking of getting one of these would be much appreciated.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

I want one though I am a bit skeptical about typing on it without it flattening out, or worse, bouncing.

It's great and i think it looks better than the smartcovers but you've still got the problem of the back being on display - meaning it could get damaged.

I definitely agree that other companies have better Ipad 2 case alternatives to the smartcover but i'm really intrigued by this one!

Definitely looks classier especially without a hinge. I returned my smart cover but was only able to get store credit (since I bought online and returned in store) so if they ever sold this in store I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but they probably won't.

I think any real smart cover option you're going to have to use like an invisible shield or something on the back (that's my plan).

I too would think this would be bouncy for typing on. but it's pretty cool seeing the cover on with nothing visible holding it.

Missed this thread, eh?

Smart Cover scratched iPad

My smart cover scratched my ipad right in the middle of where the hinge goes... im not a fan of wood but i cant wait until other companies start copying miniot and create their own versions of smart covers without the hinges.. i would even consider getting the wood one from miniot if it was stained in black or gray..

Agreed +1 once that happens I'm in for one.

I just posted on the other miniot thread on here.. might be a fun DIY project... i will return my black leather smart cover and get the miniot.. sand it down... and stain it black!!!!!

Miniot Black Stained wood smart cover + frost incipio feather which should arrive any day now = exactly the look and protection I want for my iPad 2.
