alright, I found the one thing that's making me despise Sonoma. it's probably at the bottom of most MR users' concern lists, and yet it is so aggravating it's almost making me wish I hadn't updated.
it's the g*ddamn…restructuring of the Fn/Globe key as it pertains to emoji. previously, you would hit this button once and it would show all emoji. now, it attempts to predict what emoji you want to use (virtually always getting it incorrect), forcing you to hit the key twice to get to all emoji.
the worst part of this by FAR is the fact that it's seemingly impossible to disable. already tried disabling "Show inline predictive text"—didn't work. searched for anything relating to emoji in System Settings—nothing relating to this. Apple has made it inherently worse to use emoji on macOS while keeping the function exactly the same on iOS (can't speak to iPadOS but I wouldn't be surprised if they brought this bs to it as well, when Magic Keyboard is paired). I genuinely do not understand why. it's a surface-level complaint for sure, but this is the exact kind of tiny little thing that Apple is usually really good at avoiding: all those tiny little things that annoy the hell out of me on Windows are what made me switch to Mac. again, just…why?
