I am from Germany and can't understand why Apple didn't make a Smart Keyboard with german button layout for Germany. So my question is: Is there a way to get umlauts (öäü and ß) on a german iPad Pro with the english Smart Keyboard? Thx

You press alt+u to get the umlaut and then select the relevant vowel afterwards. There is only a US version of the Smart Keyboard right now, I suspect others are in the works but may be some time.

I have downloaded a German keyboard for my iPhone when I was studying German and it's now a choice to use for my Smart Keyboard. It was years ago so I can't remember which one I got but it was in the App Store.

Cheers,
B

I just enabled the German keyboard in settings - which means I have German spelling. I've set the hardware layout to English though as finding the punctuation can be rather hard otherwise!

Someone did this:

Are there any better ideas? The Color does not mach very good on the sticker...

If you switch to the azerty layout in settings, will the keyboard use it?
You can switch to AZERTY for French or QWERTZ for German and the keyboard will use it, the problem is for those who aren't touch typists or don't have the keyboard memorised that you can't always find everything then.

Yeah, think so, too. But better than the version apple sell to us Germans... (and other countries....) I can't really understand why it is not possible to make international Versions like the ones für Macs...

Yes weird choice - at least have the different languages ready now that they have introduced a second member to the Pro family... I would buy the keyboard, but waiting til there's a Danish version ready - if ever...

I'm waiting too...

There actually is a company that sells the original smart keyboard with alternate layouts printed on.
But I have no Idea if the print is any good.
And they charge 199€. 2-3weeks delivery

I would buy if they had the 9.7 Version. You have money back guarantee if the print ist bad. I asked them via mail when they release it. But I think first they have to get their hands on some ;)
