Hello.

I looking for some recommendations for smart lighting that's compatible with HomeKit and Siri in the UK.

I'm moving house and getting the usual bits together, new kids furniture etc. I want to get a strip LED light for a small child - purple and pink are the only important colours apparently!!. Too young yet for own device so needs a remote control as well but I want it to be compatible with other smart lighting as I go through the house upgrading it all.

Funnily enough, just this morning I setup our Philips Hue lights and switches to be used in HomeKit and with Siri (UK here).

We have been using them with Google speakers and hubs for several years, but Google voice commands are slow and extremely unreliable, to the point where we were going to go back to old fashioned non-smart lighting.

But this morning it took about 10 minutes to set all the lights and smart plugs up, and Siri voice commands are near-instant and have never failed so far. It operates flawlessly via my iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, all via Siri and via the Home app. The Apple Watch controls are great.

Philips Hue bulbs and lights can be a little pricey, but I personally think they are the best option. For an LED strip for a child with a remote, you'd need another option, but most good brands are compatible with Philips Hue.

The Ikea smart lights are good and not too expensive. We've been using them with Siri for a while now with no problems.

I think with a Hue switch (or Hue button) you can make a button press invoke a HomeKit scene. Alternatively, iConnectHue (app) also supports Hue switches and buttons. I have a Hue switch that is set up with iConnectHue so a press on the top button starts an animation, cycling between colors with a 20 second hold time. Bottom button turns the animation off.

OP - you could go that route and place a Hue button or switch in the child's room. That could give a nice level of control to their LED strip only, by calling on a HomeKit scene or a Hue animation. Hope this helps!

I like the HomeKit compatible Meross smart switches and dimmers sold on Amazon. I have four of the 3-way, and so far they are working reliably with HomeKit.
