Just playing around with smart mailboxes to organise my emails.

I have set a couple up and the correct mails go to the correct smart mailbox, but they also remain in my inbox. Also when i tried deleting them from the inbox they were also deleted from the smart mailbox.

Am I doing something wrong, or is that just how it works? I'm just trying to have them be automatically moved to the desired smart mailbox and not in inbox.

Smart mailboxes are like smart playlists in iTunes; they don't move anything. I have a Smart mailbox to show all mail in the last three days.

A normal mailbox and rule will move the message.

So if I create a normal mailbox with a rule I can have mails go straight to that mailbox without it remaining in inbox?

If so, can you tell me how I make a rule for the normal mailboxes?

Exactly.

Create a Mailbox and give it a name (ebay for example). (Mailbox > New Mailbox)

Go to Mail Preferences > Rules and click Add Rule
Give the rule a name

Select > From and Contains and the type (for example @ebay)
Now select the action 'Move Message' and select the ebay mailbox that you created.

Good luck ;)
