I have a lacie 500gb external hooked up through USB to a powermac g4. I like to use apps that report the current SMART status of hard drives. Things seem to see the smart status of any internal drive, but it says external drives dont support SMART status. Under apple profiler, it says not supported on smart status of the external drive. Is there any way to see the smart status of external hd's or is this just not supported?

I have checked this before on a drive that was previously an internal drive.

When the drive was internal it did report the SMART status, when the drive became an external drive it also reported that it was unsupported.

I just figured that my external housing didnt support the SMART feature, as i do not know how it works.
