Hey all

On my iPhone at the moment but I dropped
It this morning and smashed my screen to the point it needs replacing. A note is my phone is jailbroken.

Quick question for you all

1. Any recommendations of good places to buy a replacement?

2. How easy is it to replace as I don't want to lose my Jailbreak and therefore can't go to the Apple store to get it fixed.

Thanks all

Go to an Apple Store, it'll cost you $200 to have another one, ask the clerc to power it on to check if the iOS is 4.1.

At Apple--Will they even say anything about the Jailbreak considering he's paying out of pocket for the replacement of the glass/digitizer?

Isn't it cheaper to change the screen than go to Apple anyway?
Wanted to see if anyone recommends a particular vendor for a replacement screen...

Thanks all

It might be slightly cheaper, but not more than 50 bucks cheaper. And you'll either be out your iphone while you ship it to someone, or you'll have a hell of a time trying to replace the part yourself. Take it to apple and pay 199 and you'll get it replaced in 10 minutes and be out the door with a refurb phone.

Only problem, you won't be able to jailbreak it just yet, at least not an untethered jailbreak. There's a good chance it will come with something older than 4.2.1, but apple isn't signing any of those old firmwares, so you can't get it to install I don't think.

Great thanks all.... looks like it is Apple Store here I come.... lets hope I get a 4.1 to JB again ;)

this is what happens when you buy a phone made of all glass.

iPhone 3GS FOR LIFE

its only gonna be a 50$ difference between buying online and going in store, save yourself the hassle and trouble and just go to the store.

He broke his screen, not the back. The 3GS screen is also glass and not the hardened type used on the 4. A 3GS would not have saved him.

I concur. I jumped the gun & sold my pristine 3GS just prior to release of the iPhone 4. Thus I pre-ordered... trusting that iPhone 4 would be even better. A mistake I regret. Hopefully the next iPhone will be up to Apples normal quality.
