Hi all, I hope someone out there can help!
Basically, I need some way of refreshing or reconnecting a SMB connection on a client Mac (yosemite) as the user leaves his Mac without saving or logging off when he leaves his desk at the end of the day. He then gets annoyed that the server connection drops and he can log on to the server or he can't save his work.
Background:
The company whose IT i am managing has recently change from an OS X server to Windows Server 2013. Part of this has been replacing AFP with SMB. The engineer who set the up the server set the SMB timeout at 8-9 hours. There are 6 shares on FileServer and another share on FTPServer. Each user has varying access to the FileServer shares and all users have full access to FTPServer. Whilst at the moment users log into their Macs locally, they have Active Directory credentials to log into the servers.
With the previous setup, users could and would leave their Macs as is at the end of the day and then be able to pick back up where they left off the next day.
The new setup has caused a few issues with users still thinking they can do this, but I've been coaching them not to do this and it's been a success. Apart with one user. He refuses to change.
Problem:
As this user is one of the committee who decides on contracts (and therefore my job) I have been looking for a script or command to refresh or reconnect the connections every 3 hours so the Servers don't timeout the connections.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated,
Regards, Tom
