I have an Ubuntu box, latest LTS, an external exFAT drive connected via USB. Also running Plex media server.

From my TV I can access and watch all media stored on this external drive.

From my Mac (Sequoia 15.5) when I try to access this Ubuntu box in Finder I get the error 'Connection failed' - when I try to use 'Connect As' I get a popup stating that there was a problem, that the server may not exist or is unavailable.

When I use the 'Go > Connect to Server' option the error changes to "This file server will not allow any additional users to log on"

I have no problems at all connecting to this box using SSH. I have made many changes to smb.conf in an attempt to fix this, but so far nothing has worked.

Any ideas?

So I removed or commented out most of the changes I had made to smb.conf - commented out all PAM authentication commands. *something* that I did fixed it! I can now access through finder.
