Ever since updating to iPadOS 18.3.2 I cannot access the SMB share (via USB) on my modem.

I use it to watch movies on my iPad without uploading, just connect the UsB stick to the mapped share linked to the USB port and go.

It worked for years and now, broken.

The shares in files app, VLC and Documents all fell over.

Created new shares, no difference.

Any ideas?

which smb version uses the share? you can try the free version of e.g. owlfiles to see wether this Apple Files specific.

I cannot connect with VLC or the Documents app which seems similar and more popular than owfiles. I assume all would use the basic networking stack of the iPad anyway.

Fixed the issue.

I simply made sure Local Network Access was enabled in Settings > Privacy & Security. Not sure how that was turned off.

Still not working in Files app as that doesn’t appear in that setting.
