I have a macbook air mid 2012 which until recently would dual boot either mac or win8. The grief started when I upgraded to win8.1. Now all I get after a spinner thing is a blank screen. Black or very dark blue.

Figured I should ensure that the firmware was up to date, I booted to the mac side. Both the SMC and EFI are not current.

So I downloaded the current files and tried to install them but for either file I get an error
"Alert This software is not supported on your system"

Thoughts?

Now for a bit more detail....
I know the model is a mid 2012 model because I typed the serial number into the mac web site here
https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

Also in About this Mac I get

Current MAC System Information
Model Name : MacBook Air
Model Identifier: MaBookAir5,2
Processor: Intel core i5
Processor speed: 1.8GHz
Number of processors: 1

Boot Rom Version: MBA51.00EF.B00
SMC Version(system) 2.5f7

Then on this page
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237

MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012)
MacBookAir5,2
MBA51.00EF.B02 (EFI 2.6)
2.5f9 (SMC 1.9)

So I downloaded the two files and clicked on them.

IS there a separate installer program I should use?

Thanks in advance

surely someone can help

i could really do with a pointer on this
thanks

What OS are you on? You may need to update before it will work.

My MBA was on 10.8.4 when I got it and then 10.8.5 came out, which I didn't update to straight away, followed shortly by an SMC update. When I went to update the SMC I couldn't, Mountain Lion said there was no system update available and the installer on its own - downloaded manually - wouldn't work either. Then I updated to 10.8.5 and the update automatically appeared...
