smcFanControl Doesn’t Do Anything

It works - the fan speed changes - for about half a second (maybe less) and then stops. Has anybody else had this problem?

Late 2009 15” MacBook Pro, 2.53 Ghz
Mac OS 10.6.4

This used to happen on my 07 Blackbook running Tiger. I never found out why, but when I put in a new hard drive and installed Leopard it went away.

It works fine for me.

Delete it and reinstall, that might fix it.

Nope, still doesn’t work.
I just installed Fan Control. I’ll use that instead.

Ever find a solution here? My 2010 2.53 i5 15" MBP running OS X 10.7.3 is doing the same thing ever since I put in an aftermarket SSD and put my HDD In the optical bay. Exact same thing though, fans adjust to what I tell them to (used iStat and SMC) for a split second then return to whatever. The computer seems like it's just doing a bad job of managing heat, fans will be high at 43C and barely on at 80C.

I'm really hoping to avoid the natural debug process here of using the process of elimination and opening the machine back up... (<-- first world problem, I know).
