smcFanControl question

So I have been using smcFanControl for a while now..

It seems when I quit out of smcFC the fans stay at the rpm.
say I quit while they run at 4000rpm, the fans stay spinning at 4000rpm.

I guess my question is, if I quit do I have to set it at default(2000rpm) to get it back to its original mac regulation, or am I correct when I say the app just lets you control the minimum rpm settings?

I hope I didnt ask this for the 308409872734th time, but thanks anyway

SMC Fan Control offers the DEFAULT preset, which sets it to 2000 RPM and you have to set it to DEFAULT before quitting the application.
Why do you want to close the program in the first place?

Indeed, there's no reason to close it when it can just sit unobtrusively in your menu bar. Also, SMCFanControl only sets the minimum fan speed parameter in the SMC. This setting will persist even after restarting or rebooting into Windows via Boot Camp. Short of setting the fans to the Default speed yourself, the minimum fan speed will return to normal on its own after turning the computer completely off before booting up again.
