OK, this is odd.

The first time I thought I imagined it. The second time I thought I was just seeing something else.

Not t happened again and I DEFINITELY saw it. What I can only say is a "puff of smoke" coming from my 13 ProMax

I have a keyboard that holds my phone. the way I sit, the top of the phone is just below eye level. I did a "Hey Siri" to set a reminder and sure enough, a very faint puff of smoke came from my phone.

There's no odor, phone isn't hot, seems to be working fine. So I'm not sure if it's may be dust/dirt or something like that.

Has anyone else come across this? Is this a known issue? Do I have a ticking time-bomb in my pocket?

Hmm…

Option 1: Bring it to Apple before your House gets burned down.

Option 2: Put a nice ? on it to smoke.

Option 1 might be the saver choice! ?
But you can also try option 2 first, then go with option 1, too.

Do not turn it back on.
Lithium ion battery fires can emit very toxic smoke. Your battery is smoldering

I've never turned it off.

This has happened a few times since I got it a couple of weeks ago. And not warm, seems to be working fine.

I was kinda thinking maybe it was blowing dust out like the Watch shoots water out or something. Guess I'll hit the apple store

Yeeeeah, best to take it back, I’d be incredibly concerned if I saw that more than once.

Does this happen while it’s playing music/any audio out of the loudspeakers or is it just randomly happening while it’s sitting not doing anything?

Thinking about this… if water cannot get in, how can smoke come out unless the whole thing is burning to the point of destroying the seals?

I mean, take it to Apple to get it checked, but something is quite odd.

Option 3: Fire sale!

Smoke particles can range from 0.09pm to 5pm.

Water molecules are ~270-280pm and invariably cluster together making their overall size significantly bigger.

That's how.

The phone is not airtight, it's water resistant. Huge difference.

it’s kind of random. I’ve seen it when I unplugged it and got out of my car (thought I was seeing things) then yesterday not plugged in and sitting on desk when Siri spoke.

Even if the "blowing dust out" was in fact an iPhone feature (which it is not), iPhone 13 is dust and water sealed, so how would all this "dust" be inside a phone you bought two weeks ago?

I mean, you do you, but please come back and post some pictures of the damage if your battery combusts.

Not sure why you're so hostile, lmao

I was just curious if anyone else has heard of this with the 13 Pro Max.

I went to the Apple store Friday. They didn't even open it to look at things, they just replaced it after a talk in back with someone. So I still don't know if this is something others have seen, or just a one off.

If it were me, the moment I saw the smoke I would have turned off the phone and headed down to the Apple store to get it replaced. Why take a chance and leave the phone powered on.

It's dust and air moving, the speakers are extremely powerful relative to their size. You can accumulate enough dust in just a day or so to notice it when an abrupt sound is played loudly, now that there's a loudspeaker in the earpiece area as well as on the bottom grates. Moreso if you've got your phone in the sun or against harsh light.

Siri farts.

All joking aside, assuming you aren’t high or trolling, turn it off and bring it to an Apple store.

Turn off
Take to Apple Store
Smoking iPhones are usually a battery problem and could lead to fire
Don’t take chances. Better safe than sorry

Just to recap, I DID get it replaced.

I was just curious if this was an issue others saw or some odd thing I didn’t know about.

- phone never got warm
- it didn’t smell like anything
- It wasn’t billowing mass of smoke
- It was just a tiny, barely visible “poof” that came out when I did a “Hey Siri”

I wasn’t sure if there was some new mechanism to eject dust or dirt, like the watch shoots out water or if there was some recall/defect people were aware of.

My best guess is it was something related to the speaker Shorting out. My phone is always on silent and the only time the speaker gets used is when I do a Hey Siri.
