Smooth scroll with Microsoft 7000 mouse

[iMac 27]

I just put a MS Laser Mouse 7000 on my iMac - couldn't handle the Magic Mouse. Is there any way to get smooth scrolling out of it, rather than the 'jumping' type scrolling ? Would Steermouse help ? Should i load the MS software ? I read a couple places not to bother with MS software.
