SMS App not letting me compose correctly

To be more specific, when i go to compose a text message, i open up the SMS app, click compose, but when i type in the name of a contact and i know its spelled correctly and everything, it wont show their name like they arent in my contacts. but if i click on the plus and go into my contacts manually, i can select their name and it works fine. this is just a little bug that is in one of my apps and i was wondering if anyone else was experiencing it as well. if so, which app is it that is causing this bug?
