SMS Backup

I don't know if this has been asked before (I searched but I couldn't find a definitive answer) but I've heard that when you connect your iPhone to your Mac you can backup your SMS messages.

Can anyone confirm this?

I have completely restored my phone 3 times and never once lost a SMS message. Just sync first and your good to go...

Yes, even notes will back up. The only thing that doesn't is email and photos taken on the iPhone.

i wonder why there is a limit to how many SMS you can hold on your phone?
