This question has been asked before, but never really answered as far as i can tell (see https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1243490/).
Can sms gv extension and iMessage be made to play nice?
The worry is that iMessage might step in and send messages directly to other i-devices before sms gv extension can send the message through google voice.
Now, that behavior might be what some folks want of course. But the problem is that your contacts with i-devices are going to have two different numbers for you: one for stuff that gets sent through GV (like your phone calls), and another for stuff received through iMessage.
Ideally, we'd want iMessage to stamp outgoing messages with the GV number (hmm - perhaps a JB system tweak could be made for that?). But not sure that'll ever be possible.
