iPhone 5 or earlier SMS/iMessages only appearing on computer

Having a problem with my iMessages/SMS?

Messages currently only show up on my computer. My phone's message list is outdated and new messages that appear on my computer don't ever appear on my phone.

Any ideas how to remedy this?

iPhone 5S running latest iOS and MacBookPro11,5 running 10.13.6 ... this has been a problem for months at this point.

Have you tried signing the phone out of iCloud, and back in again? I'd also make sure that messages is enabled under Settings - Your Name - iCloud - Apps Using iCloud

Don't know why I didn't think to try those things...thanks dotme!! Signed out of iCloud on the phone and back in. Didn't have 2FA enabled and Messages were not set to sync through iCloud. Rectified all of that and Messages are set to sync.

...however this hasn't fixed it, my messages list on my phone still hasn't updated.
