SMS sends faster than iMessage on iPhone 5S/LTE?

So here me out: I'm coming from an iPhone 4S so I apologize if its been like this since the 5

I have an iPhone 5S and of course it's an LTE phone. I've noticed text messages are now sending faster than iMessages when compared to my iPhone 4S. Is this because the iPhone 5/5S is LTE? Because it's a 5S? Anyone else noticing this? :confused:
