smtp.mac.com and D-Link Router

My G4/933 can't connect to smtp.mac.com - I get a timeout on port 25. If I have a message lying in the outbox, then I kill the .Mac account, then restore it again - the message sends successfully. I think it's my router because If I dial up to earthlink instead of using the DSL through the router, Mail.app connects to smtp.mac.com just fine. I can receive mail just fine. My earthlink smtp server works just fine. The router is set to DHCP, with 4 comps on the local network.
