Smut downloads pound Japan's [$74bn] 3G network

Japan's 3G network is taking a pounding from porn-hungry users, who are eagerly slurping up capacity to the point that service providers have been obliged to impose limits on abusers of "unlimited" net access packages.

According to Bloomberg, DoCoMo and KDDI Corp are feeling the heat, especially around midnight when “heavy users” spikes slow the $74bn network. A typical customer is 32-year-old Tokyo travel agent Takeshi, who coughs ¥6,300($66) a month for an unlimited deal, "allowing him to download adult movies on his mobile phone".

I don't really get it. Surely if you're watching porn you probably want to be watching it by yourself at home, on a proper computer with a proper sized screen

Yet apparently in Japan they all like to check it out at midnight, on a 2-3" screen, where? who knows

People do bizarre things. I've seen people on airplanes watch porn on their laptops.

Tell you the truth the timing makes sense.

around mid night is the time a lot of people are going to bed and before they go to sleep they are getting their nightly porn in.

An example here is I gotten in the habit when I go to bed to use ATT CV TV and watch some epsisod of NCIS or CSI on my phone. Yes the video quility is poor, sound is not to good and the screen size sucks but something has to bed said for having the phone that close. It makes it just easier to do it. hell I bet if you look at ATT network at around midnight I bet you will see a sudden spike in their data usage.
