sn0wbreeze boot tethering?

So, I successfully jailbreaked my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1) with sn0wbreeze, and downloaded some stuff from Cydia. At the bottom of the screen it told me to restart or something so I clicked it. It turned off and went to the Apple logo, but when I tried booting tethered, it stuck at Apple logo/went to recovery mode.

So here are my questions:

1) Do you put your device in DFU Mode at the Apple logo in order to boot tethered? Or do you turn it off manually first AND THEN do put it into DFU to boot successfully?

2) What's the difference between Pwned DFU and 'regular' DFU? How do I know which one I'm in?

Also have another question:

3) I can jailbreak perfectly w/ sn0wbreeze, but using iBooty to boot tethered never works on my computer. Can I use redsn0w to boot my iPhone even though I used sn0wbreeze to jailbreak it?

I think the answer to #1 is that you can go to dfu mode from anywhere so it doesn't matter if you do it at apple logo or turn it off first.
