The Snapchat app for iOS devices has been updated with a new widget feature, which is designed to make it easier and quicker for Snapchat users to send snaps and messages to friends.

Available in the Today view of the Notification Center, the Snapchat widget adds a Bitmoji for friends that are marked as "Best Friends" within the Snapchat app.

Tapping on the friend Bitmoji automatically opens up a chat with that person. In Snapchat, Best Friends are the people with whom you communicate most often.

The Snapchat Bitmoji Widget can be enabled by opening up the Today screen of the Notification center, tapping "Edit," and adding the Snapchat option. People listed as Best Friends in Snapchat who have also created a Bitmoji avatar will be listed as contacts.

Snapchat can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Unless Snapchat adds some sort of sharing mechanism, it will die. There's very little social interaction in this social media platform.

Snapchat is a parasite on society. Down with narciissism.
I honestly think that Snapchat is tied with Instagram as the best social media platform currently available. I'd even argue that it's #1. Snapchat is entirely it's own entity -- frankly everyone seems to be copying them. It's a refreshing and authentic way to interact with each other. And not to mention the "Discover" tab where you get to watch real snaps from real people from around the world.

Regarding "narcissism," I'd say that maybe 5% of the folks I follow on Snapchat use it to post pretty pictures. The rest (like myself) use it to share fun moments and otherwise goof around (mainly through video).

I'm 23, by the way. Not a 16 year old tween or anything. :D

What exactly do you mean by sharing mechanism? Just wondering. I'm thinking you're meaning like sharing content from your phone to snapchat, but I could be wrong. And you can do that.

Agreed, it's a great, fun service. It rarely is used to post selfies and stuff, mostly just to share what one is doing throughout the day and to have fun with friends, typically in a goofy/comical way.

The app SUCKS though. EXTREME battery drain, makes phone EXTREMELY hot. Makes phone EXTREMELY laggy and slow. This is from an iPhone 7 Plus by the way. It's crazy.

You're not kidding. I totally agree. :(

It's like they have kept the legacy code from the early days of the app and piled more and more crap on top of it (good features, but bloat-y).

Actually, that's exactly what they did. They have kept the same basic, bloated app, and added more features. Therein is the problem.

Am I the only one who can't see the widget in my Today view? I add it, it doesn't show up anywhere on the screen. Tried to restart the phone, as I slide to Today view I see it for a second and then it disappears. iphone SE on 10.2.1 and the latest version of the app, I'm in the UK, if that matters...
