I've noticed that more often on certain websites when I open them in safari the App Store launches and "candy crush" pops up and wants me to download it. I don't remember this ever happening in ios 6. Is this new?

No. Never happened to me. You might be inadvertently clicking on a link that opens the App Store. It should not open automatically.

I tested it multiple times making sure I am not hitting anything and it launches on its own. Very strange. I've never searched for "candy crush" or downloaded it so it's definitely and advertisement.

that happens to me as well on iOS 6.1.3. you may be hitting an advert box after its loaded but before the image shows up so it looks like you're not hitting anything. it has happened with other apps as well. not an iOS feature methinks.
