Anyone else noticed FW400 being very slow after converting to SL?

My Aperture library is on a 1TB drive in a FW400/USB2 enclosure.
After SL install, importing became painfully slow, taking 40 mins to import less than 2GB from SD card.

I did the usual Aperture things, vacuuming, rebuilding the library, deleting the plist, no better.

I tried moving the file from the SD card to the FW drive using finder, and again it said it'd take 40mins.

I copied it to my desktop then tried to copy it to the FW drive, again 40 mins.

I connected the drive using the USB2 cable, and it did it in 'about a minute'.

I guess the issue is probably compatibility of the FW drive firmware with SL, but I've no idea how I'd update that!

Hmm, I have a 2008 Mac Pro and I haven't noticed any slowdown on FW400.

I ran Time Machine for the first time since the install, and it did 14GB of backup to my external enclosure in a reasonable amount of time (not sure what, but certainly not hours and hours).

I've read that some people have problems and some don't, it must be related to my particular HD enclosure.
