Snow Leopard: Clean Install

I have Leopard and a mac book pro.

How do I go about doing a clean install with Snow Leopard?

is this the best way to do it?

1) Backup my files with timemachine first.

2) do a clean install

3) restore my user account on timemachine.

4) Manually install my apps

Will that work?
