Snow Leopard - Dictionary not working

Hello All,

I have been searching for some answers, but have not been able to come across anything (may not be using correct search terms, so please excuse me if this is somewhere else).

My dictionary shortcut for any app (e.g. Safari, Preview,...) does not work. I have OS X (10.6.8).

Thank you for any input or guidance you can lend.
