I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that Mac's just last longer. Given the choice, an up to date SL would be my preference over Mavericks, but i think many people are running SL because they have to.
 
I think Macman45 is right. It's only anecdotal, I realise, but the few people I know using Snow Leopard are all limited by their older hardware, rather than any conscious decision.
 
Sadly Apple has dropped 10.6 support. Very unlikely they'll go back on it now seeing as they already gave it an extra year of support beyond what they've done with previous versions of Mac OS X.
 
This is normal. I bought a refurbished Early 2011 MBP in 2012 the day the 17" was discontinued to be able to have Rosetta.

And now Mavericks kills SyncServices.

Really, with Apple the only way is away.
