Recently I have been trying to install Snow Leopard to no avail. First, I attempted to install it from the dual layer disc I have, and when that wasn't working I partitioned my external hard drive and created an installation image from which to boot. I keep receiving the error:

"installer could not copy the necessary support files"

I have scoured the web trying to find the solution, and most people have pointed toward a hardware problem.

I verified the HDD and I played with the RAM configuration. Rember reported that one of my 1gb modules was faulty, so I took that out and I still keep getting the same error.

Does anyone know how to get around this? It's driving me up a wall.

Oh duh...

15" MBP 2GHz Intel Core Duo running 10.5.8

It's somewhat old, I got it in 2006.

I'm having the same problem with my 2.2ghz mbp :( The DVD drive keeps spinning up then down. I know it works because it a) booted to the disc and b) I just ripped some stuff not 2 days ago. Very frustrating.
