I'm not sure why but i've got twice already a major error with my (new) macbook pro with snow leopard where I had to shut down and restart my machine (this huge button sign with the order to shut down and restart appeared) so I'm wondering if thats an issue with snow leopard of if something is wrong with my hardware. does anybody have/had the same experience so far with snow kitten?? the first one i had like after 4h receiving my device and the second one just now ..

Kernel panics tend to be hardware related rather than software related. Like what J the Ninja has suggested, what does the log file say?

and on the last one this :

My Mums MBP was recently doing that, I ran the Apple hardware test on it and it came up with memory error...

The kernel panic logs, look very very similar to yours (all 5-8 of them).
It might be a good idea for you to run the same check, either off the disk that came with your computer (the one specific to your model), or hold D at startup and it will load it if the hardware test is installed (I think).

Kind Regards

I also had a kernel panic since installing SL, also the first panic since buying my mbp in '07

hardware check

well i've run two times the hardware check and both times it was negative. it appears that my hardware is okey eventhough coconut battery showed me a battery health of "only" 97% which is actually weird since the machine is new and I didn't buy it over the refurb-side. I somehow guess its a bug within snow leopard. but if it's the memory then that problem will be solved soon since i'm going to upgrade very soon to 4gb. But still this thing is very strange...

6 Kernal Panic in 10 days

Hi !

Have serious problem with my MacBook Pro 2,53 GHz, 4GB RAM.
Have installed (Clean) Mac Os 10.6 and all updates to 10.6.1
Before I had this machine into AASP for defect RAM. They replaced the 2GB RAMs and tested the machine with no problem. BUT now I got 6 Kernal Panics in 10 days
Then I install Mac Os 10.5.8 on an external 2,5" HDD and have tested that with no problem. To be sure I clean-installed again Snow Leopard on an external 2,5" HDD with all updates. Then I try to use You Tube video in Safari, and in 5 min I got Kernal Panic

This confuse me much because I want to use Snow Leopard, not 10.5.8 :(
As I can see it it´s not hardware related, because it works in 10.5.8

Have anyone a clue what I can do about it ?
It drives me crazy :(

Regards
Magnus

Seems like it's Safari and mDNSResponderHelper causing the kernel panics.

Try to uninstall Safari and then reinstall/download the latest version.

For mDNSRespnder you might want to remove the mDNSResponderHelper.plist file. from

Macintosh HD/System/Library/LaunchDaemons

Move it to the Trash but don't empty it. Make sure it's removed from the folder and then restart the computer.

I had trouble watching flash videos (not YouTube), I had like 5-7 kernel panics in about two weeks, it was the RAM, got replaced and haven't had the problem since.
It happened particularly when it heated up to 50-70+ celsius, I know you've said it's not that but have you run the Apple hardware test?

Move it to the Trash but don't empty it. Make sure it's removed from the folder and then restart the computer.

The problem is that I got the same Kernal Panic if I use Firefox and Chrome too. So the problem is not only related to Safari.
As "MythicFrost" says: Problem with Flash Video is the same problem I have. Flash crashes in Safari, Firefox and Chrome and maybe 1 min later I got Kernal Panic. I have done Apple Hardware Test with no errors.
Strange

Multiple Kernel Panics

Hi everybody,

Terrible what's going on since a couple of days!
More Kernel Panic that I have ever had in more than 20 years of using Apple products…
Besides, I can't find any common cause.
I have not launch the Hardware test as I am now on business trip and do not have the original DVD for my MacBook unibody. Pre-installed Hardware test have been erased while installing Snow Leopard.
Had some problems a few months ago of computer not waking up after sleep, one RAM has been changed.
Anybody has an idea of what could cause this Kernel Panic serie?

I had trouble watching flash videos (not YouTube), I had like 5-7 kernel panics in about two weeks, it was the RAM, got replaced and haven't had the problem since.
It happened particularly when it heated up to 50-70+ celsius, I know you've said it's not that but have you run the Apple hardware test?

Exact same thing on my 2.26ghz Mac Mini.

I thought maybe it was the ram, but it seems to be related to video

Flash/iPhoto/YouTube use.

I downgraded from Snow Leopard. Apple told me to make sure I had done all the updates on Leopard before installing Snow Leopard.

Something's weird. Maybe it is the new firmware thing that allows the Mac Mini's to use eight gigs of ram now? I'm staying on Leopard until this bug gets worked out. Lost a LOT of time doing clean installs. About FIFTEEN kernel panics.

Hardware test was done straight away. No hardware issues with upgraded four gigs of ram. I think it is a video chip issue or the ram limit issue.
