Snow Leopard - Network saved docs get stuck in read only when saved.

So i have an issue when trying to save changes to Word docs on the network. I can save a few file but if i want to make changes i need to go into the file permissions and set them to read/write as they get changed to custom. Then if i reopen it i can save once and then its back to "Read-Only".

Does this have something to do with locking the file while in use? I wouldnt have an issue with keeping them unlocked as these saves are going to be on the users personal folders only they have access to.
