So a MBP can be put to sleep mode (even for several months), right?

I never shut down my MBP when I finish using it. I simply close the display and put it to sleep. That's completely fine, right?
It's been several months already without the need of a shut-down, sometimes the eventual reboot cause of software update, but nothing else. Hard drive should be fine? anything to worry about?

I never close my lid while it's on, but to each his own. I doubt it'll hurt anything, but mine is 4 years old and the sucker can get pretty hot, so I just don't trust it.

I usually only close the lid if I'm going a short distance with it on, or if it's completely off.

Other than updates and such, I only shutdown my computer if I'm not going to be using it for a week or more. Sleep is fine.

Sure, but I doubt you'll go that long without updates or some other reason to reboot or shutdown.

In principle there's no problem with just sleeping it, but I'd suggest occasionally having a look at Activity Monitor, System Memory tab - if your 'Free' availability is less than 100MB or Page outs are more than 100MB then a reboot might clear things out of cache and speed the system up a fraction.

So I don't even have to close the display? Sleep mode with lid open is the same sleep as with the lid close?

I rarely shut mine down its always in sleep mode when not in use.
