So can you now remotely securely erase a Mac just like an iPhone if it's stolen?

With Catalina, do Macs now feature cryptographic erase like iOS devices do? That is, when you choose "Erase this Device" for a Mac in the Find My app, does the erase happen by Apple deleting the Mac's encryption key remotely, essentially making all your data on it useless and unreadable? (this is how the feature works on iOS devices).
