I'm off from work, but I know in the two minutes I want to run down the street to grab some food or something, UPS will show up. It's just Murphy's Law at work.

Is there any waiver form I can download so they can just leave it at my door? The most time it would sit there is like 10 minutes...

My recollection is yes, and no I do not think you can have them leave it.

UPDATE: Keep reading, other forum members indicate you can 'pre-sign'. Good luck!

This really ought to be a sticky. Copied right from my order status page from Apple.com.

Do I have to be available when my package is delivered?

To ensure safe delivery, our carriers require a signature for delivery. If you’re unable to provide a signature, click “Pre-sign for this shipment” above to sign for your package in advance. For more details, refer to the Shipping & Pickup Help page.

To make this clear, yes you need to sign for your package, but you can "pre-sign" for it when your phone has shipped from your Order Status page and either UPS or FedEx will leave the package in your mailbox or porch. I did this last year and when I got home from work, the phone was waiting in the mailbox for me.

There's usually a paper you can sign to leave on your door to have them leave it there. From what I can remember UPS usually says that they will be delivered before noon and that's usually the case.

For the 4S there was a form you could download from the Apple status page that was for that very reason. I haven't had mine delivered by UPS yet though. Always been FedEx. Hopefully they will do it again. I remember the form didn't show up till I got a tracking number though.

I've done the pre-signing...but it's a bit stressful to know there's a $700 phone sitting on your porch. If you have trusty neighbors that will be home I would ask them to grab it for you.

Thanks. For some reason, I don't see that option yet, I checked. But my order status is still showing as "Preparing for Shipment" so perhaps once it appears on Apple.com as Shipped I will be able to do that. I appreciate your help.

Before 10:30 for businesses and before the end of the day for residential. Delivery schedules will be crazy as UPS will be under heavy overload so do not count on UPS being at you place the regular time. There will be nothing "regular" on the 21st for these people.

If you live way out in the country, you may not get it at all till the next delivery day.

This is well and good for anyone who ordered via Apple...

But what about ordering directly from your carrier? I don't think you can pre-sign?

you will not be able to leave a note for Fedex as they have been instructed by apple to deliver it to an actual person and I am sure that UPS is the same way . It's just a phone it's not going to hurt you to wait till Monday

The caption I posted is on the Order Status page towards the bottom. But yes the "Pre-Sign" link won't appear for you to click on till the phone has shipped which will likely happen the next 24-48 hours.

My son and his friend share an apartment while going to college. They both ordered the iPhone 5 with delivery of both Friday. My son has to work but friend will be home all day waiting. Will he be able to not only sign for his own phone but will he be allowed to sign for my son's also? Should son leave anything in writing giving permission for friend to sign or do they not care as long as someone over 18 signs?

Thanks

I hear that they don't just deliver phones these days, some places will actually bring hot food to your house. True story.
