I ordered a bestskinsever skin, great quality btw.

It has a side band plastic on it that covers up the areas people touch.

I'm wondering if putting that on will fix the antennae issue.

I personally haven't experienced the antenna issue as I have tower nearby, but am in the process of moving to New York (a low signal area oddly enough), so will the issue not be a problem with a skin on the side metal band?

No, those skins are conductive as are Zagg and Bodyguardz and all the rest. They are the same material that goes over the CAPACITIVE TOUCH screen and your touch obviously triggers the screen and it's not due to pressure.

it helps but doesn't stop it from happening. it takes longer for the bars to go down and i havent noticed it as much with the skin.

No, it does not work. I have it on mine and it only helps a little due to a bit of extra thickness but it's conductive.

It's all in your mind. Placebo effect. Unless they prevent your touchscreen from functioning "a little" (which they don't) they can't possibly stop or reduce the antenna issue even "a little." They have to be fully conductive to allow you to use your screen.
