I have a 13" mbp running snow leopard.

I have tried to change the dock with CandyBar - choose a dock, hit apply, it relaunches dock, the dock is the same as it was before. Restart twice, still same.

I have tried to change the dock by going into HD>System>Library>CoreServices>dock, etc. ... deleting certain items (after backing up) as instructed by more than one site, adding back in same elements from dock packets (png and curve elements), then going to terminal and typing in: killall Dock. Dock disappears for a moment, returns -- the SAME. Restarted twice.

WHAT am I doing wrong? Why can't I change the darn dock? All I want is to remove the horrid border and make the background clear. This is so frustrating.

I don't see how it's not changed when I have removed certain elements from the dock system files ...

I'm sorry if this is tedious, but any advice is appreciated.

Um...is your dock vertical? You can't change it if it's vertical. :p

Otherwise..I unno

Oh, for the love of God. Are you serious?

Yes, it's vertical.

I'm so glad you thought to ask.

And that sucks. Because I like my dock at left.

Why, oh why did Apple, usually so good about simple, streamlined design decide to make the dock so dark, and put that wretched border around it? Gah.

Thanks again.
