What good is more screen space if it gets covered up by your fingers, which need to grip the phone somewhere, somehow? Those "fat" bezels on the current iphones? Look at how you actually use them. They're places where your fingers can rest and/or hold the phone without obstructing whatever it is you're looking at. I'm surprised no one is mentioning this (so far) in the previews of iPhone 8.

The latest iPad provides a perfect example of the problem I'm talking about. The very slim side bezels are actually too slim. No only do they force your thumbs to try to grab onto too little to hold the device, but the "thumb rejection" tech doesn't work half the time. I returned the iPad Pro for this very reason. It was awkward to hold, and accidental stuff happened way too often because the device thought I wanted to do something on screen when my thumbs were actually just trying to grip the stupid thing.

The iPhone 8 looks like it will be even worse, offering less bezel area than the iPad Pro.

Well, the current iPhones already have slim bezels on the left and right side of the screen... and that doens't cause any problems.

The bezels on the top and bottom will be reduced, not the bezels on the left and right.

Don’t need bezels for that. How do you hold your phone now that requires you to touch bezels OP?

You'll be fine. Phones can be gripped without interfering with the screen.

Now for a gripe... there's no such thing as "bezel-less" phones.

Even the phones you think are "bezel-less".... actually have bezels:

Like this. I use my right hand to actually touch the screen.

Maybe you meant how do you hold [and use] a bezel-less-phone with ONE hand?

There are no bezel-less phones. Even the S8 has somewhat large bezels in my opinion on the top and bottom.

They're referring to the side and it possibly being a problem when handling the phone.
I can see that being a problem if they are handling it one-handed like a lot of people seem to do.

Maybe I'm old (I am anyway) but I prefer to handle a ~$900 device with two hands.

I admire the folks that just say "no thanks" to these expensive devices and get along fine with a $50 used whatever-the-heck-works phone. They're the smart ones.

Most people refer to the sides. If you think the S8 has large top and bottom bezels, what do you think about the current iPhone?

The side bezels? It's pretty easy to hold the S8. I have no problem with it. The iPhone looks ancient with its bezel. I really hope Apple makes major changes to this upcoming device.

My concern is my palm touching the lower right/left side. I have used many Android phones with minimal bezels and this has always been a problem. I even had to not put icons in those areas to prevent any accidental activation. Worse is phones with those capacitive buttons (eg. Samsung pre-S8), thus my palm sometimes manages to touch and activate those buttons.

As for touch rejection, I find my iPad to be decent, so I have confidence in Apple to handle this better than any of the Android OEMs (who did practically nothing).
