Hi everyone,

Can someone explain how sleep monitoring works? It seems to want me to setup a schedule, unfortunately I work shifts (mainly night shifts) and my sleep pattern is all over the place. I also work a two week pattern.

It also doesn’t seem to support a 2 week schedule. Is there a way I can just tell it I’m going to sleep?

Thanks in advance!

The good sleep habit is consistency in bed time which Apple sleep tracking encourage this. If you can’t conform to it then it’s almost useless.

I thought as much. I was hoping I could just press a button when I slept and it would tell me how much I’ve had.

Mind you, I don’t need my watch to tell me I haven’t had enough!

Can you just not set a schedule and hit the bed icon in the control center? I haven't played much with it yet... but I don't always go to sleep at the same time so I was hoping to not have it automatically go into sleep mode.

I didn’t know there was a bed icon in control centre. I will have a look!

My initial impressions are that this is not a sleep tracker... it's a sleep reminder. It tells me nothing about my sleep... ie, did I wake up or move around a lot... was it light sleep or deep sleep. No, just how long I was in bed.

I don't often have a pop at apple but seriously, after all these years this is it?!? Very disappointed in this and will be switched off for now. I already know when I go to bed and get up.

To be fair, most of the devices that give you that kind of information essentially just make it up based on nonsense data. Not sure if the series 6 will do something with the SPO2 meter built in. I probably won't use it as I have a withings sleep device although I include that as a device which essentially guesses sleep states.

I'm confused about this. I set my ideal schedule, but then last night (first time using it) I went to bed earlier and hit the bed icon in the control centre, which set everything to the right mode, but when I looked at my data for the night, it looks like it only started recording when my schedule was meant to start.

Also, it looks like it picked up when I got up in the middle of the night, but I'm not convinced it fully registered the time I was actually awake and not sleeping. For a start, I might have been hitting the snooze button every 10 minutes for nearly an hour this morning, but it's logged as solid sleeping time.

yeah I’m questioning it’s accuracy. I haven’t tried going to sleep before my schedule but it works going to sleep after schedule and waking up after schedule. My time in bed last night is only 3 min longer than my sleep time which is wrong. It takes me forever to fall asleep. It shows when I woke up in the middle of the night but like you, I hit snooze for about 30 min this morning and it shows as sleeping. It needs some work. I don’t expect it to show types of sleep, not sure how accurate those measurements are with other apps anyway, but it shouldn’t be hard to recognize I’m awake when I’m physically hitting a button on my watch to snooze an alarm.

I set it up last night and told it I was aiming for 7.5 hours of sleep. Was not pleased when an alarm I had not set went off at 6:55 am, an hour before I usually get up. Maybe it *thought* I had had enough, but I wasn't sleeping all the time it thinks I was. The only good thing was its automatically turning on Do Not Disturb.

I'll be sticking with AutoSleep.
