Am curious, if anyone has any experience to share, how would you rate the 13 inch RMBP (touch bar version) when it comes to heavy 4K editing? I see fantastic performance on the 15 inch (of course) but can't find much info as far as the 13 inch goes. I guess it's not common for 4K video editors to actually even consider purchasing a 13 inch RMBP

I travel a lot so the 13 inch does seem attractive but at the moment I am leaning far more towards the 15 inch since I value the additional horsepower more. But if the 13 inch can hold its own handling 4K edits (FCPX only for me, not Premier) I might swing back to the 13

Not just referring to export times but how the overall user interface feels (like how smooth it is scrubbing through a 1 hour 4K timeline or whether the app lags or stutters during the editing process or even how well the Safari browser plays a youtube video while exporting a video in FCPX...stuff like that)

Much depends upon how the 13" is spec'd out. If you get 16GB of RAM (vs. the standard 8GB), you'll be in better shape. The Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 is actually pretty decent for graphics editing - although you will benefit from the 15" dedicated graphics with 4GB of videoRAM.

I’m also interested in those who edit on the 13”. Anyone got the fully spec’d model?

There hasnt been much in the way of replies so I'll just say I'm guessing the dual core 13 wont do very well.

Even editing 1080p gopro footage with some colour correction, defish filters and stabilization and so on chokes my 2013 13 almost completely.

I get the feeling that hoping 2017 or later 13s will be able to handle 4K may simply be asking too much

Pretty much this would be my guess it'll do it but not fast and fluidly.

When the 12" rMB came out, there were videos of people editing 4K video in FCPx with it. This video discusses 4K editing on 2015 rMB with details and render times.
