So how much for a PowerMac G4 1GHz???

if the new machines take on the current pricing:
(Fast) 1.6 G5: $1,500
(Faster) 1.8 G5: $2,000
(Fastest) Dual 2.0 G5: $2,700

How much will the 1GHz G4 cost? Possibly drop to at most $1300?

Hopefully it does, I need a new computer and this would be perfect!!!! Lower priced powermac G4's to come in time for me to adopt the Mac platform. Now I can get a mac and use my own monitor and still have money left over for my college books.

I belive that the prices will fall a lot because if they don't people will just save up the needed $200 to get an entry level G5. Maybe the current line up will fall by at least $400. (I doubt that'll happen) wow a $1100 headless Mac, that's music to my ears.

If it doesn't happen any of you guys want to sell me your used PowerMac G4??? For about $1100???
 
Apple will hate this but patience at this interlude in apple time,space and dimension will pay rewards to those who's eyes are opened to technologies advancements.

Pricing strategy:

Fast, 1.6 Ghz -- $1,799

Faster, 1.8 Ghz -- $2,499

Fastest, Dual 2 Ghz -- $3,599

Ultimate Config available from Apple Store -- $4,499

I'll be surprised any other way. If they do, it's only because they're following the Chrysler Pacifica example: $41,100 versions won't sell, so we'll offer a "stripper" version with cloth seats later on this fall for about $30K!
 
1800 for the entry level G5 damn that's steep I hope you're wrong. If this is so, then I guess Apple will not have new users only old mac users looking to upgrade. When will a monitorless mac be available for under $1200. That would make lots of people convert not an $1800 monster machine.

subtract $300 from each unit and apple will sell millions. Keep it at these levels--- i dont think so.
 
The price will be a deciding factor for millions. If Apple prices them correctly their market share will grow. But $1800 for a computer... MANY will not buy a G5 just because of the price, even if it's the "the world's fastest personal computer".

At 1800 only current Mac users will buy. At 1500 some pc users will also buy along with the current Mac users. At $1300 apple will have a hard time keeping up with the demand.
 
apple will never have a computer revolution if they want 1800$ for a 1.6 GHz box now. that's outrageous. sure, the current mac users will buy it, but apple will never, never, never increase market share with such elitist prices. these need to be just as expensive as the current ones, or less even. apple needs to take the psychological hit of lowering prices to amass marketshare.
 
if anything they need to bring em down, please remember moto and the g4 heck even a 1.4 giger upgrade cost 500-600 bucks. that is crazy when compared to the wintells which do have higher performance. If apple really is going for the ball they could be lower then what we have now. Heck If they came out with the 1.6 with a top video card say 9700 or 5900?? for under $1500. the base cards have lacked in my opinion.

well, just for the sake of argument, suppose that the 1.6 Ghz 970 is $1500, like the current low end powermac. And also suppose that the 1.6 Ghz 970 is as fast as the 1.42 Ghz G4, which seems possible from what we have heard.

*If* those things are true, then it seems to me that even the *high end* G4 would have to come down to around $1500, or else why would you ever buy it over the low end 970? that means that the low end G4 would have to come *way* down, like to 1K.

Now, I'm sure that apple will never cut prices that much, but I don't see why anyone would buy the MDD G4s otherwise.

So maybe the 970s will be either not as fast as we hope, or more expensive than we hope... because if the 970s are fast and priced the same as MDDs are now, the MDDs would need *massive* price cuts or be a ridiculously bad buy.

Why does it have to be so expensive? I thought that the 970s were cheaper to produce, and hopefully apple didn't splurge THAT much on a new case design :D
