I don't understand why. :shruggy:
I got my Apple TV 4k a week ago. Everything was compatible with my Vizio M series TV right out of the box. I watched a good deal of Dolby Vision content last weekend as I calibrated and tested things out. Then for most of this week I've had the Apple TV set in 4K SDR.
Same HDMI cable, same input place (HDMI 1), the "Full UHD Color" setting remains "on" on my Vizio TV, but now I can only do 4K HDR 10, and the Apple TV won't let me set it to Dolby Vision.
What… on earth… changed? I've turned the TV off and on, restarted the Apple TV, turned the input's UHD setting off and on. This makes no sense right now and it's pretty annoying.
Big thanks if anyone can help out… ?
[doublepost=1508005586][/doublepost]Update: I just spoke with Apple Care person on the phone and it seems the only option is to get a new HDMI cable specifically labeled for 4K and all else.
Right now I've been using an Amazon Basics "high speed with ethernet" cable and I joked that maybe it was okay with Dolby Vision at first but then I burnt it out from stress last weekend, and he surprisingly answered, "yeah that's definitely possible…" ?! So even though this cable worked for a few days at first, it just lost the capability.
Not even my Vizio hdmi cable that came with this TV is labeled for what it's able to carry, and it's not letting me use Dolby Vision either.
Update 2: what the FUNK. Now it just let me switch to Dolby Vision again as I idly pressed into the settings. I would be elated, but I'm mostly just not a fan of these gaslighting mind games that my ATV (or, more probably, this cable) is playing on me.
