i have a iphone 3g 16gb and i have cracked the glass on it

i was just living with it but it got cracked by a lock hiting it directly below the home button and now the bits of glass are falling off

i need to get it repaired because the glass is about to fall off where the touch screen starts and i dont want to leave that unprotected

i was thinking mission repair but what are your suggestions?

1) head to apple store genius bar to see what the best price they can do is

2) missionrepair is $125 w/ one year warranty, pretty good

3) do yourself (EG from http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Front-LCD-Screen-Lens-Glass-Cover-Apple-iPhone_W0QQitemZ350107553888QQihZ022QQcategoryZ14418QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ) for very cheap!

doobs

Do you have any experience with Mission Repair? Sounds like a good deal, but I can't find many reviews for them that don't seem to be done by their own people.

DONT BUY THAT!!!
The screens for the first generation iPhone and the new iPhone 3G are completely different. You would need to buy a glass screen replacement designed for the new iPhone 3G!!!

ya the 3g are easier to replace cause the glass and digitizer are seperate pieces now

anybody no how much apple costs to repair it? i no its cheaper than the the 2g cause that was 250 ause they were replacing the digitizer too

Call up Apple and ask them. I wouldn't be shocked if it is still 250. Because I don't think they actually repair the phone, they just replace it for you. But I can't say for sure.

I was at Genius Bar today and the guy next to me was quoted 199 for another iPhone 3G to replace his cracked-screen one. No idea if his was an 8GB or a 16GB.

My Wife Dropped Hers Today from about Three Feet and Shattered It

I got my wife's 8g through my moms account and switched it to her account because she wasn't eligible for the discount in July. She is eligible for the discount now so I called ATT and she can buy a new one for $199. Cracked 8G's are going for about $250-$300 on ebay. That's where this one is going. I called apple and they wanted $199 to repair it. Do it your self seems to cost about $55-70 but it voids warranty.

I had mine a whole 24 hours before it got a crack.. Looking on ebay, like you said, they are going for over $300!

So, I have a 2 year AT&T contract now with a broken phone.. If I sold my iPhone on eBay could I just buy another one at AT&T since I have a contract with them already?

you can but it will cost you more than the 199/299.

I would say your best bet is to do it yourself, watch the guides on youtube it doesnt seem extremely complicated and it's no more than $40

one might consider takign a pair of pliers and breaking out the silent ringer switch. That is something that they will replace your whole phone for. You could say that you were living with the crack but the switch was a manufacturer defect....

Yea, I am up to that .. Yesterday when I was researching it I thought I read it was a nightmare to do.. After seeing the glass+digitizer for $50 on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-iPhone-3G-L...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1308&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) I may do it myself..

I do beileve you have to get both the glass and the digitizer, right? I was reading on mission repair's site that it's impossible to remove the digitizer from the glass so if one would just buy the glass it would not fix it.

These guys are awesome.

Apple quoted me $700 plus labor, with a 10-14 day turn-around for a repair on my Powerbook that Core Care fixed in three days for about $150 out-the-door. :)

Even if you don't live near them, you can mail it to them. It's worth at least calling for a quote either way.

I was able to get my iphone replaced at the apple store. They were kind enough to waive the att fees so I could get a new phone for $299. They even let me keep my old phone stating it couldnt be repaired (i would beg to differ)
