So I got my USB microscope out and brought it to bear on my new macbook pro retina screen vs my 13inch macbook air (which already has a higher DPI than the regular machines).

Thought you might like to see!

Left is macbook air, right is retina (as you should be able to guess) both of them are the same magnification.

(also it was really hard to get the microscope straight for the retina pixels, so theres a slight tilt... sorry about that)

Given they were both "pure white" screens the pixels on the retina seem a LOT brighter too - wonder why.

Great shots.

They really decreased the black space between sub pixels which is nice to see.

The screen is just amazing, personally I don't like the big size of the laptop overall but the screen makes it hard to return...

Are the screens definitely Samsungs? I thought they were Sharp IGZOs?

See the screenshot attached someone said 610 is Samsung?

What does iFixit say?
