Why didn't they just keep the previous hardware designs another 7 months? It seems a waste of money to introduce a new Unibody MB/MBP15 only to completely revamp them 71/2 months later.

Perhaps the 13"MBP and SD card instead of FW were thought of fairly recently?

Cost: They can get the unibody design out and done, so the cost per 'case' if you like sinks to a level where they can start to add more stuff for a similar price. A news story said this when the Unibody's first came out in-fact, wonder if its still out there.

So its cost really and although I am annoyed its what business do!
 
I doubt the case design will get changed in anything less than a year (or more). Look at the Macbook Pro previous gen...it lasted for quite a while.

However, as just proven, Apple continues to surprise.
